Ellyn, her husband and two daughters were equally smitten by the sudoku bug that year, so we decided to create a Hanukkah card reflecting their harmless obsession. Normally, a holiday card features everyone at their true age, but for this playful concept Ellyn and I decided to use childhood versions of her and her husband. The girls would remain their true size.
On account that we didn’t have any photographs of the girls which would fit the idea of each family member occupying a different square on the sudoku board, I asked Ellyn to shoot a photo of her two daughters playing patty cake.It actually worked better than expected because the girls would naturally sit close to one another and create a more self-contained figure rather than two separate ones.
Needless to say, it was the perfect solution, albeit, not a sudoku one.
